Blog Tech Check

Download from WordPress.org. NOT compatible with WordPress 3.0.

Blog Tech Check is a plugin which will check if certain conditions are met by your Wordpress install, such as if specific plugins are installed, the permalink structure is not default, etc. In the current version, the following checks are made:

- If user called “admin” is present
- Permalink settings are not the default
- Folder permissions are correct

Certain plugins installed and active:
- WP DB Backup
- XML Sitemap

The plugin will suggest corrective actions to the user with on how to rectify any tested conditions which do not pass.

Further checks for additional criteria will be added in future versions of the plugin. If you have suggestions, please leave a comment below.

  • I am getting this error with the Blog Tech Check since I upgraded to 3.0 [Fatal error: Cannot redeclare check_perms() (previously declared in /home/content/b/i/l/billtwynne/html/_max_performance_team/wp-content/plugins/wp-security-scan/functions.php:18) in /home/content/b/i/l/billtwynne/html/_max_performance_team/wp-content/plugins/blog-tech-check/btgc-checklist.php on line 10]

    Any ideas?
  • Hi Bill,
Unfortunately the plugin is not compatible with WordPress 3.0 at the moment. It can safely be deactivated and it will let you know when there is a new update but unfortunately I don't know when I will get around to it. Sorry about that!

does WP 3.0 require a .htaccess file ? i just downloaded the package and checked (searched the files) but it does not include one by default. Anyone know this if this is true or not ?
  • WordPress never REQUIRES a .htaccess file, but one is needed when changing permalinks to something other than the default. On most web hosts a .htaccess will be created automatically when changing this, but in the initial setting there is no .htaccess as it is not needed and would just be blank.
  • Hi Joel

Pierre Soderman from, Blogmastermind and shapejourney, here. I just want say that your plugin helped me a lot. I have falling behind a bit with the lessons. This is a just great way of getting the basic plugins for wordpress. Especially thanks for the advise of removing the admin user.

    Pierre
  • Thanks Pierre, much appreciated. Glad it helped!
  • I keep getting the error "Fail: File/Folder permissions are incorrect and most likely a security issue. " Just out of curiosity which files do you think I would need to change the permissions on so I don't mess anything up?
  • The blue i button next to the error will expand and show you the file permissions that you have and what they should be set to and where your file permissions differ.
